Mystery Play is an upbeat comic drama about a mysterious company who intervene in people's lives at times of crisis.
Sadie meets Jude at her therapists'. While waiting, they get talking, Jude revealing that he is there for a loan. Sadie suggests that Shelby, the therapist, might do financial work as a sideline (it's only her second visit). Jude feels that Shelby does counselling as a sideline . . .. Flashbacks reveal how they both came to be there, and the truth is emerges about the enigmatic Layton Shelby, who is neither a counsellor nor a financial advisor, but something more . . . much more.
